2019/2020 Serie A preview: “Race for Europe”
European football race
We expect at least four teams to slug it out for the final champions league spot and the Europa league spots available. The likes of Roma, Lazio, Milan and Atalanta will have a lot to say about who takes the remaining European spots.
The Gillarossi faithfuls will undoubtedly be disappointed with their side and definitely be filled with low expectations for the new season. Roma who finished a disappointing 2018/2019 campaign in 6th place and ultimately missed out on champions league football will be riding on luck and good fortune if they’re to surpass the performances of last season.
Roma who were champions league semifinalists just the year before have somewhat regressed and have themselves to blame after the consistent sale of some of their top talents.
The appointment of new manager Paulio Fonesca doesn’t particularly inspire confidence coupled with the sale of players like Kostas manolas and Stephan El Shaaraway, we believe the Gillarossi are in for a torrid season ahead.
Acmilan will undoubtedly come into this season with a lot of hope and positives from last season. They narrowly missed out on the top four and the football displayed for most parts of last season was particularly encouraging.
Despite the replacement of Gennaro Gatusso with Marco Giampaolo from sampdoria coupled with the signatures of exciting players such as Rafael Leão and Theo Hernandez, Milan will look forward to an exciting season ahead.
The Rossoneri will look to build on the positives of last season, push for the championships league places and stage a return to be among the giants of Europe.
Lazio will undoubtedly want to forget the 2018/2019 season where they finished a disappointing 8th position and ultimately missed out on European football.
The only positive from last season was the winning the copa Italia. Le Aquile will be looking to correct the wrongs of last season and immediately return to challenging for European places.
They particularly had a decent summer by managing to hold on to their top players like Sergej Milinković-Savić and Ciro immobile as well as the addition of Manuel Lazzari, Jony and Denis Vavro to their ranks, they will look to mount a serious challenge for those European spots this season.
Atalanta were the surprise package of the 2018/2019 Seria A season. The Gli Orobici surpassed all expectations and shattered pre season predictions as they stunned all to finish in the top four and securing champions league football in the process.
Their tactically brilliant manager Gasperini and cult heroes like Papu Gomez and Duvan Zapata will be looking to consolidate on the successes of last season and lay a firm hold to the fourth position or go a step better.
The duo of Fiorentina and Sampdoria will also have a say on how the top of the table shapes up and ultimately decide continental places.
