Arsenal vs Manchester City 2019/2020 Preview: Team news and injury updates, Head to Head stats, betting tips and predictions

Arsenal welcome champions Manchester City to the emirates stadium looking to get closer to the top six teams. The gunners are currently 9th, seven points away from Chelsea in 4th. Caretaker Manager Fredrik Ljungberg got his first win as Arsenal manager last Monday when they came from behind to beat fellow Londoners West Ham United 3-1. In the Europa league they also had to come from behind to play a 2-2 draw with Belgian club Standard Liege, moving on to the next round as group leaders.

Arsenal have no problems with scoring, but the issue as we have seen many times this season is their defence. They have scored 24 goals so far in the league, but have also conceded the same amount of goals, leaving their goal difference at 0. The gunners have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 13 games and have conceded first in six of their last seven games in all competitions. It is of no surprise that Arsenal fans might be dreading this fixture, but as we have seen, Manchester City are not invincible. All they have to do is outscore them.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City returned to winning ways in the Champions league midweek, thrashing Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb 1-4 after the derby loss to Manchester United last weekend. After Liverpool’s win yesterday, the citizens are now 17 points behind the league leaders and 7 points behind second placed Leicester City.

The blue side of Manchester will be disappointed some of their performances this season, having already lost 4 games so far, which was their total loss tally for all of last season. This is also the first time in Pep’s career that his team has 32 points after 16 games, the lowest so far. Thus, we can not explicitly say that Manchester City are in the title race, as they are currently trying to meet Leicester in second place.

This is unfamiliar territory for Guardiola, his team has lost the aura of invincibility they built in the last two seasons after dropping points against Norwich, Wolverhampton wandered and Newcastle United – fixtures they dispatched with ease last season. The bulk of his 199 previous games in charge have been a relatively easy ride, but his 200th game in charge harbors doubts about his future at the club, thus he would want to celebrate this milestone with a win.

The Citizens are known for getting over losses and setbacks easily, so we can expect them to come out guns blazing this evening. Both teams have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last ten games in all competitions and one can not help but wonder if this is just a battle of who can score the most goals.
