Borussia Dortmund Booted Out Of 19/20 German Cup Classic
Borussia Dortmund’s run at the DFB cup came to an end last night after they suffered a 3-2 away defeat to Werder Bremen at the second leg of this fixture. The first leg ended in favor of Bremen after the two teams exhausted both the full time and extra time playing a 3-3 stalemate. Resulting to penalties, Bremen were the better team of the match winning 4-2.
Dortmund barely got their defense in order allowing David Selke (Werder Bremen) the chance to fire a shot into the net off a rebound from Hitz to get ahead. Dortmund failed to properly clear off a corner as the ball bounced to Bittencourt, leaving no room for delay as he slotted the ball straight past the Marwin Hitz, giving Werder Bremen a shocking 2-0 first half lead.
The second half started off with a Dortmund substitution as Erling Haaland comes in to replace Thorgan Hazard to make his DFB Pokal debut. The former Salzburg striker came in guns blazing creating chances and eventually netting Dortmund’s first goal around the 67′ mark, barely three minutes after Bremen replied with a third goal. Dortmund continued to push back, seeking another goal and possibly an equalizer but only managed a second goal stylishly scored by Giovanni Reyna. The match ended this way, dashing Dortmund’s hopes of making it to the next round.
