Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke; Team news, Head to Head, Match Prediction
Bundesliga action returns amid the corona virus pandemic with a blockbuster fixture as high flying Borussia Dortmund welcome Schalke to the Signa Iduna for another installment of the Revierderby.
Both teams will be looking to make a positive return to league actionas they face off on Saturday afternoon.
Borussia Dortmund
BVB currently occupy 2nd place, four points behind table toppers Bayern munchen as they head into this clash. Lucie Favre’s men could close the gap at the top to just a point with a win here before the reigning champions play on Sunday afternoon.
Dortmund who notched up four straight league wins before the break will come into this tie feeling confident of getting all three points. However their recent run of results against the visitors doesn’t particularly breed confidence having won just once in their last eight meetings.
The intimidating and vociferous crowd usually present at the Signa Iduna will be missing for the hosts but their formidable home record (W9 D3) this campaign should steer the men in black and yellow to a positive result.
BVB will be without the services of the likes of Axel Witsel, Emre can, Marco Reus, Nico Schulz and Axel Zagadou for this clash.
Possible lineup: Burki – Piszczek, Hummels, Akanji – Hakimi, Brandt, Delaney, Guerreiro – Sancho, Haaland, Hazard
Schalke
Schalke will be looking for a positive result as they head into this clash. David Wagner’s side sit in 6th place, one point clear of Wolfsburg in 7th and will look to stay in contention for an European finish.
The Royal blues come into this game in horrendous form, winless in their last six games in all competitions and haven’t won a league game since getting past monchegladbach in mid January.
Despite the negatives, David Wagner’s side will channel confidence from their recent decent run of results against their hosts. They’re unbeaten against Dortmund in seven of their last eight meetings and have won two of the last four ahead of this encounter.
Schalke will be without the duo of Omar mascarell and Ozan kabar for their trip to Dormund while Benjamin stambouli remains a doubt.
Possible lineup; Schubert – Kenny, Todibo, Nastasic, Okzipka – Mckennie, Schopf, Serdar – Raman, Burgstaller, Harit.
